Local derby win for U16s

The U16 team remain unbeaten following today’s match with Dunbar which was much tighter than the score line suggests. The NB lads coped well with the wet conditions and scored 12 tries to Dunbar’s one with majority coming through some clever back play.
Smith opened the scoring wide on the left then made it two shortly after bursting onto a Slater pop. Dunbar then gathered themselves and attacked through their forwards however the home defence held and eventually turned the ball over and it was Smith to complete his hat trick.
The NB forwards lost some discipline and were repeatedly penalised. Dunbar capitalised and scored from the back of a line out on the 5 m line. Smith put NB back on track with his 4th try of the day and Loy was then quick to react to a Dunbar infringement and scored from a quickly taken penalty.
Various combinations of players were used in the 2nd half and the backs pace told began to show on the tiring Dunbar team. Salisbury, Mackle, Smith (2), Elms (2) and Slater scored without reply.
The Dunbar forwards battled hard for the whole game and won their share of ball. As their backs improve Dunbar will prove a handful for some teams this season.
For the North Berwick team, we now look forward to another local derby with Musselburgh on Sunday 31st October.
