North Berwick took a new look Under 16's squad to Melrose on Sunday for the annual 7's tournament which is played on the world famous Greenyards pitch. Due to the impact of school examinations there were a number of new faces in the squad, However, this did not stop the boys from playing some excellent 7's right from the start of the tournament. They started off with a win against Jed in their first group game followed by wins against good Gala and Kelso teams. This put them through to the final against the hosts Melrose who had looked very strong in their group games.

In the final the boys played some great 7's rugby. Against a very aggressive and well organised Melrose team they scored some excellent tries and then defended their lead very strongly in the second half. The final score being 26 - 10 to North Berwick.

This is the first time that North Berwick have won the Melrose Under 16 7's tournament and credit must go to all 12 squad members everyone one of whom contributed to a great day. Special mention must go to Riccardo Burrows who was voted by the coaches as the most improved player of the tournament, to Kayde Reynolds who finished off lots of tries in style and to Lachlan Stewart who played a full part despite having come direct from a Duke of Edinburgh outdoor expedition.

Squad: Kayde Reynolds, Riccardo Burrows, Ethan Roulstone, Lachlan Stewart, Kalon Forrest, Fraser Milligan, Michael Dean, Roddy Main, Andrew Grant Suttie, Nathan Evans, Cameron Hutchison, Jack Kennedy
