After a morning of rain the match kicked off in perfect conditions in front of a large crowd most of whom enjoyed the very close game played out by both teams.

Playing down hill it was NB who were first to score through Mackle after the forwards took the ball through several phases. Smith extended the lead and scored under the posts after taking a pop inside from Slater who then converted for a 12 – 0 lead. NB were, until this point, dominating the game but it was Currie who showed great strength of character to score two tries in quick succession straight through the NB three-quarters. Both were converted to give Currie the lead at half time 12 – 14.
With both teams fully committed and the pace of the game high, some big hits took their toll and both teams were forced into changes. The NB forwards had Currie on the back foot for a time but they defended well and North Berwick could not break through. Currie then extended their lead scoring out wide after their forwards had done the work in midfield. The lead was however short lived as Smith scored a try very similar to his first and Slater converted to tie the game 19 – 19.

With players tiring and also carrying injuries the play became quite fragmented. The defences came out on top and despite both sides having opportunities to score the game ended 19 -19.

The league title was shared and Barry Sinclair presented the trophy to both captains at the end of the match.
